Roland RD-700sx User Group

Hello! It seems to me that there is need for a much better user manual for the Roland RD-700sx Digital Piano. I have scoured the net and can't find any resources; online or after market books. Hopefully, RD-700sx owners with more experience can help those of us who would like to unlock all the cool features of this keyboard. It would be great if Roland logged on and answered our questions. Hmmm... wonder if I can make that happen.

I hope all RD-700sx users find this blog useful. Any comments or idea's about how to improve the blog, please let me know.

My first question is... "Why, when in Setup, does it say Bank A, B, C, D? From what I can tell, each of these banks contain the exact same information. For example; for setup 1, there is Bank A, B, C, and D. What is the purpose of these other banks? Can I save to a bank? For example; Can I modify setup 001A and save it to either 001B, 001C, or 001D, without losing the original setup in 001A?

My other question is... can I make my own arpeggios w/o using the on-board patterns? Can I add or modify arpeggio patterns?

Another question I have regards the "song" feature. Can I choose different rythm patterns and chain them to create a song. If yes, can I also chain tones?

Hello Dai,
I'm Xavi, from Barcelona, Spainn. Recently I bought an RD-700SX and every day I'm surprised with the performance that this piano offers to me. Regarding your question, I think that the real purpose for those Banks is to have direct access to your setups. I mean, You can store up to 100 setups but, it can be a difficult task access them when you are playing in a concert or something like that. The Banks assign let you to access to your setup just pushing one button. If you want to access to your 87th setup, you can assign it into BankA-1 for instance and then, just pushing the numeric key (key 1) then your 87th setup is called.
If you need to know how to assign setups into Banks (Favourite Setup function) you can read pag number 57 (Registering the Setups You Like (Favorite Setups) Chapter) from the Owner manuals.

I hope this information helps you. Sorry for my English...:( I'm learning it yet...

Your English is very good Xavi! You have the nuances of the language which is very difficult.

I talked with Roland yesterday but I didn't understand. Your explanation with example was VERY helpful. It makes sense now. I also learned yesterday that the arppeggios cannot be edited, that a sequencing software or a workstation would be needed.

Thanks!

Just came across your blog.... I also wish there was a better manual. My problem at the moment is getting the MIDI file player to work. If I upload a MIDI file via USB to the RD700SX, I can play it but I cannot play along with it. The demo MIDI file works OK, but not the ones I upload... tho they will play. Same thing happens when I attempt to play the RD700SX GM MIDI via USB using a sequencer on my laptop. I can play the GM MIDI tones OK, but I can't play along with them.

I also need help with the banks:
As Dai said "Why, when in Setup, does it say Bank A, B, C, D? From what I can tell, each of these banks contain the exact same information. For example; for setup 1, there is Bank A, B, C, and D. What is the purpose of these other banks?" Can I save different sounds to different banks? When I save, say Harp to Bank A, 001, it duplicates that sound in exactly the same place in the banks (ie Harp appears in A-001, B001, C001 and D001.

I need to programme 142 sounds for a show - and so I need those different banks to save different sounds. How do I stop the keyboard copying the same sounds to Bank B, C, and D??? It is driving me insane!
